How We Work

How We Work

Clear Idea or Dreamy Notion =  An Occasion of Botanical Abundance

How we work at Lila B is especially tailored to your design needs and the stage your are in the process of creation.  We negotiate the space between your ideas and the fantastically orchestrated final product, whether you have a clear idea of what you want or it is a dreamy notion.

1.  Complimentary Consultation: A Proliferation of Ideas

We begin when you make an appointment for your complimentary consultation.  For weddings this usually involves you coming to visit our Mission district studio while for other site specific projects we may come to you.  During this consultation, we listen to you.  We listen to what you know, as much as what you don’t know.  We encourage you to bring in any photographs or raw materials such as fabrics that have the “right” feel or look, even if you don’t really know how all the pieces will come together.  At this stage we are looking to generate ideas, locate what moves you and what inspires.  If you don’t have these “pieces” yet, don’t worry.  We will work with you to locate them.

Helpful Information to Bring:
-Details about the location or anticipated location of your event
-Set colors
-Budget

2.  Piecing It Together: Concept to Reality

After our consultation, it is our turn use years of design experience to weave together the pieces of your vision.  Using your favorite botanicals and colors as a palette, we work to materialize your clear ideas as well as your dreamy notions, while carefully considering your budget and specifications.  Once we get it just right we send over conceptual drawings and photos, the first step in bringing your ideas to life.  This first step is your proposal, your design plan with Lila B.

3. We Work With You (Smile): It Will Be Fabulous

Once your design plan is in place and your event grows closer, time moves faster.  We are here.  We are paying attention to the details, we are anticipating what you might need, and we are at your service to be sure you have what you want.  Using our years of experience successfully orchestrating events from the grandiose to the intimate, we know the exact timeline that everything needs to happen in.  While you take care of the many important things that you do not anticipate, we will be growing and sourcing your botanicals, gathering all the pots and vases, fabrics and ribbons to perfectly materialize your vision.  And don’t worry, you can give us a call anytime you need to talk.  When the time comes, your clear ideas and fanciful notions are actualized by some of the most talented floral designers anywhere.  You will stand amidst your own occasion of botanical abundance.

At the end of the day we are thankful.  Thankful for you to create with, thankful to live and work in an area that allows us access to a bountiful array of materials to work with, and the very best design talent we could ask for.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean to be a certified San Francisco Green Business?

This means we have been awarded by the city of San Francisco for conserving resources and preventing pollution while working to create a more sustainable San Francisco.

Where does Lila B. Design source its plants and flowers?

At Lila B. Design, we value sourcing our plants and floral carefully.  Sometimes that means growing them ourselves.  In San Francisco we grow flowers, greens, fruits, and vegetables in an industrial parking lot for our own custom designs.

In addition to our own growing grounds, we are fortunate to source plants and flowers from a variety of talented local growers in the Bay Area and beyond offering year-round choices. Of course, we do sometimes use flowers flown in from far parts of the world, as their color and beauty are hard to resist, but we stay local and even ‘city grown’ whenever possible.

How can I contact Lila B. Design?

Email hello@lilabdesign.com or call (415) 563-6681.

How far in advance do I need to book your services?

We take reservations for large events up to one year in advance, but we can also work with as little as two weeks. And if there’s a free day in our schedule, we are happy help on even shorter notice.  We understand last-minute events come up, and we will make them special.

Why do you work on both outdoor gardens and indoor flower arrangements?

While earning a certificate in garden design from the University of California, Berkeley, Extension and spending many years gardening outdoors, Lila B. Design founder Baylor Chapman discovered a love for creating miniature gardenscapes, or dynamic arrangements of plants and flowers — and this love is independent of location. Thus, Lila B. Design’s dual focus.

Who do we appreciate? So many! Too many to list here but here are a few businesses who have been indispensable to Lila B. – to them we give a special thanks.
